Teach Me Lord

Writer: J. Richard BaranJ. Richard Baran

Merciful Father,

My deepest longing is to bring you joy with every action I take. I yearn to lift you up in praise and honor, and I grieve when I fall short. Often, I find myself unsure of the best path to fulfill this yearning, and so I humbly seek the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. I pray that the Spirit will be my constant guide, my patient teacher, and my unwavering leader in all things so that I may be a pleasing offering to you. I pray that you will not turn your face from me.

I know that healthy reverence, fear, and awe of You, Lord, is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of You is insight. I pray, Lord, that You would help me remember I am created, and You are my Creator. That I was created in Your image and that You exist eternally. You knew me before I was created and appointed me your child. You have made me an heir with my Lord Jesus Christ, an heir to the Kingdom. I know that I do not know my own heart, but you do. Standing before you is terrifying because your power and glory are overwhelming.  I am thankful for the blood of Christ that has covered me in my sin and made me righteous in Your sight.

Father God, I acknowledge that You are sovereign, and I submit myself entirely to Your will. I know that You use all things for Your glory, both good and evil. Lord, help me keep my life in perspective. I am but a mist that will soon be gone; help me always to keep my eyes toward eternity, focusing on the eternal life that You have promised to those who believe in You. I pray for continued growth in sanctification and that in glorification, I will stand with You.

As You show me Your mercy and grace, please grant me wisdom that I may better magnify Your name. That Your light may shine in me, and that You would continue to use me, Lord, as a servant, one who will spread the gospel no matter the cost.

In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.
