He is here too!

“And he shall stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they shall dwell secure, for now he shall be great.” (Micah 5:4 ESV)

As we look at the prophets, Micah clearly speaks of Christ. Micah's messianic prophecy reveals Christ to us. Micah served God in the 8th century BC. Micah's writings in 5:4 anticipated the Holy Spirit and the power He would have in salvation. Micah also foretold the presence of the Shepherd. The messianic ruler carries the Lord’s role in caring for the flock (2:12).

On this side of the cross, we know Jesus has come. Micah’s prophesy was fulfilled in Christ Jesus. In the Book of Micah, we distinctly see Christ throughout the writing. Jesus is our Shepherd. In John 10, Jesus tells us, So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. 11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. 13 He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd.”

Jesus is our shepherd; it is in Him we find Hope and peace. He looks for the one lost sheep so that He may return it to the flock. He need not worry about the sheep of the fold; they are safe in the assurances of salvation. He will return one lost sheep at a time until His flock has been gathered.

Has Christ called you by name? Is there an emptiness in your heart you cannot fill? Call out to Christ. Profess your faith in Him as Savior and risen Son of God.
