Eternal

“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” (John 10:28-30 ESV)

In our verse, today comes our assurances of our salvation. Once we have professed our Faith in Christ and repented our sins, we are secure in our salvation. What comfort for the Christian to know that for eternity, they will be in the presence of God. All of this has been completed through the love of the Trinity and Christ’s atoning sacrifice.

I want to focus on the word “eternal.” God exists outside of time. It is not something we really think about. We look at the word eternal from a human perspective. We will have everlasting life through Christ. Unlike God, we had a beginning, our conception. God, on the other hand, has always existed. Eternal means without beginning or end. There has never been a time without God. God was not created; he has always existed; this is staggering when you think about it.

The Trinity has existed forever. It was through God’s love that He created. He created everything to be worshipped for his love and mercy. The knowledge of creation Ex Nihilo, from nothing, shows the power of God. No matter how science tries to disprove this truth, it cannot because nothing can exist from nothing except by the hand of God. One can say the universe exploded from matter, but where did the matter come from? God created everything while knowing the end before the beginning.

It should be comforting that we are being cared for by an eternal being. Once we are saved in Christ, made righteous before God, we will be cared for by God for our eternity. In Psalm 145:13, the Psalmist writes, “Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations. (The Lord is faithful in all his words and kind in all his works.)” We often forget that God lives outside of time; He created time.

The fact that God is eternal helps us to understand His dominance over everything, whether living or non-living, spiritual or inanimate. God is infinite because He is beyond time. His dominion is everlasting, and He is our rock that lives forever.

God is worthy of our worship and praise, much more than we can ever give. Everything we have is His. Everything we have came from Him. He created all things for His glory, even you. We can glorify God in the highest form of worship by finding complete satisfaction and joy in God alone. We need nothing more than God, and that is for eternity. Some say Jesus is all we need, My Brothers and Sisters; Jesus is all we have, and there is nothing more.

Peace and Grace!
