Are You Ready?
“But because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you.” (John15:19-20 ESV)
“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” (Matthew 5:10-12 ESV)
Jesus told us persecution would follow those who followed Him. He was clear on this point. An article on Fox News revealed the Christian persecution in Iran. While Iran claims to allow the practice of Christianity, many are imprisoned, beatings, floggings, and fined.
Some of the worst persecutions around the world come from governments. They are afraid of Christians because most Christians fear nothing compared to the wrath of God. This article reflects that view. What I found interesting was that despite the persecution, the secret Christian church in Iran is growing by leaps and bounds. There is no fear, and more and more Iranians are turning to Christ. The concern of the Christian minister interviewed was that the U.S. State Department was doing little to protest the persecution. The U.S. State Department has said it will impose new sanctions against Iran.
Nothing can stamp out Christ; He is God, eternally existing with the Father and the Holy Spirit. The message of salvation and everlasting life through Christ is why this church continues growing despite the persecution. There is no fear of death for those in Christ. “To live is Christ, and to die is gain.” (Phil 1:21). How would you react to being imprisoned for Christ, flogged, or beaten? Would you renounce him? A time is coming when all Christians will be targeted for persecution. We must all be vigilant. Pray for our Christian Iranian brothers and sisters that they would receive the strength of Christ to remain faithful.
Peace and Grace!
